Given the extreme vastness of Trader Joe’s selection, it proves a little hard to curate a list of their best wines. But the upside to this is that there’s a wine for every occasion. You can’t possibly go to a Trader Joe’s and not find the perfect wine for you. But having said all this, the fact remains that it is far from perfect. All wine isn’t good wine. The art lies in being able to select one that’s best suited for you. And this art of choosing becomes easier when your selection is reduced to a few. But before that, we need to understand the basics of selecting a good wine. While this topic is rather subjective, because a bottle of good wine is unique to each one, we can still measure the different flavors in the wine to find out what we like. The first thing undoubtedly is the sweetness. A glass of good wine has just the right amount of sweetness. Moving on to the next parameter, which is acidity.

So now that that’s out of the way, we come to the actual list of wines that you’ve been waiting for.

Pure Bred Cabernet Sauvignon- At the top of our list, coming up first is this $7. 99 wine from California. It is arguably the best cabernet at Trader Joe’s. It is just the right amount of sweet with notes of ripe cherry.

Wölffer Estate Chardonnay- This $13. 99 chardonnay from New York, is well balanced, medium-bodied, rich with flavor, and super crisp.

Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard Dry Riesling- Another pricey wine comes your way. At $16. 99, this wine from New York has significant smells. It lies on the sweet and the citrus side.

Honey Moon Viognier- This $5. 99 Californian wine, has notes of apricot, melon, and honey. It is medium-bodied and not too dry.

Cantina Zaccagnini Pinot Grigio- at $13. 99, this Italian wine in a rather attractive bottle, is quite smooth and easily paired with pretty much anything.

McBride Sisters Collection Black Girl Magic Red Blend- this wine from California, costing around $20. 99, while expensive is definitely worth the money. Its smoothness and richness are out of this world.

Trader Joe’s Blanc de Blancs Brut- priced at $5. 99, this wine from French wine is sure to leave you wanting more. This is one of the least expensive sparkling wines out there. It leaves a floral and fruity taste and obviously, just the right amount of fizz.

Melini Terrarossa Chianti Classico- at $14. 99, this Italian wine goes down smooth but leaves a dry aftertaste. You’ll also notice notes of strawberry, cherry, and plum.

Trader Joe’s Charles Shaw Blend Merlot- Costing around $3. 49, this one is light-bodied with a slight cherry-like flavor along with some earthy and oaky tones. The biggest pro for this wine is its price.

Dão Adega de Penalva Maceration- Priced at $13. 99, this great orange wine leaves a strong and bitter aftertaste in your mouth. Despite being called orange wine; it does not have any actual oranges in it. Just that the skins of the regular white grapes are left on. You can taste tones of orange, grapefruit, and peaches in a sip.

Why is Trader Joe’s wine so cheap?

The main reason why Trader Joe’s wine is so cheap is that it has its private label wine brands. Most of these brands are made by a family-run company based in Florida. This plays a huge role in separating Trader Joe’s wine from the others. Something else that helps keeps their prices down is the fact that they sell the wines they purchase in bulk.

In my concluding remarks, I’d like to mention that choosing a wine can be a little tough, occasionally. So this is a small guide that leads you through the different wines available at Trader Joe’s. Because of their large selection, this carefully curated list can prove quite useful if you want to end up winding your day with that nice glass of wine we talked about earlier!
